Review: Brute 1976 (2025)
By William Pattison
This time we got a supposed love letter to films like The
Texas Chainsaw Massacre…
In 1976 a group of people in the desert for a photo shoot
stumble upon an abandoned town called Savage. But they are not alone. A family
of masked psychopaths have claimed Savage as their own and are hell bent on
living up to its name.
This film is an amusing, semi comedic, homage to the 70s
beginning of slasher films.
This film is clearly meant as a love letter to the 70s and
such films as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Unfortunately,
the filmmakers messed themselves up by making the character have a very 2000s
knowledge of slasher films and throw in some non-70s views on homosexuality. Seriously,
no one in the 70s is going to casually use the term slasher or talk about final
girls. All these flubs kind of takes you out of the 70s and blatantly reminds
you that this is a modern film with a 70s veneer on it, which ruins it. Well,
it did for me.
I honestly think that with the slightest bit of editing this
film could be a really outstanding homage, but in it’s present state it’s a no go.
Some fans might enjoy this film, but I’m not giving it my recommendation for the
reasons I gave above.
If you want to check it out it is on Tubi TV.
